Currently, the steel materials used in steel structure buildings have begun to increase, with five types listed in the specification. However, in conventional projects, in order to save on the amount of steel used, if you want to use high-strength steel above Q390, you will find that you encounter a lot of resistance.
After happened to meet the person in charge of the steel structure factory, talked about this problem, and the feedback was like this:
1. There is no scale, procurement is difficult, and the price is not easy to negotiate; this may result in saving quantity rather than saving money.
2. General steel processing plants are also concerned about the simultaneous use of different types of steel, which complicates quality management and increases the risk of using incorrect materials.
It can be seen that the steel structure should gradually be popularized from large projects to conventional buildings, but this process will not be short.
Taking "weld" as an example, those who design and those who work on-site have very different understandings.
Re-understanding of "seam"
The material mentioned above is also a higher-order issue. A common problem encountered in projects is a connection issue in the final step.

"What can be exceptional is the door; what cannot be exceptional is the seam-if it's a seam, it can be welded!" This can be seen as a joke from welders to showcase their skills. In the face of a large seam, one might even resort to using a "riveter" to fill in the weld.
On the other hand, this also explains why steel structures are not as popular as concrete structures. Aside from the price issue, there is also the matter of tolerances for error. The processes involved with steel structures tend to have higher error rates.
Causes of Error
Manufacturing Error: During the processing and manufacturing of steel structures, factors related to process equipment and operators can lead to inaccuracies.

Foundation Positioning Error: The elevation of the foundation positioning axis and support surface may deviate due to measurement inaccuracies. Additionally, if embedded parts are not firmly fixed, or if concrete vibration impacts and template displacement occur, this can also lead to deviations.

Transportation and Handling: During transportation and handling, impacts or improper lifting point settings may cause damage or deformation of components, which then affects installation accuracy.
Improper Installation Method: If the installation sequence and methods are incorrect, installation errors may occur. There may be situations where external forces are needed to force the connection, resulting in misalignments of associated components.

The accumulation of these errors ultimately relies on the seam to be eliminated, which explains the exaggerated "seam" shown in the picture.
