Six Core Application Scenarios of Steel Structure Warehouses
Scenario 1: Modern Logistics and E-commerce Warehousing Centers
Typical Building Types: Regional Distribution Centers, Automated Storage and Retrieval Systems (AS/RS)
Structural Characteristics:
Long-span Column-free Space: Adopts portal steel frame structures with a transverse span of 24 to 36 meters or even larger, eliminating internal columns to form an open single-floor space.
High Clear Height Design: The eave height is generally over 10 meters, and AS/RS requires a clear height of more than 24 meters to accommodate dense shelf systems and stacker cranes.
Lightweight Enclosure System: Colored profiled steel sheets or sandwich panels are mostly used for walls and roofs, featuring light weight and convenient opening for the installation of logistics doors and ventilators.

Scenario 2: Industrial Production and Manufacturing Workshops
Typical Building Types: Heavy Industrial Plants, Light Clean Workshops
Structural Characteristics:
Robust Load-bearing System: Crane beam systems shall be installed in heavy industrial plants to bear overhead traveling cranes with a load of several tons to hundreds of tons, featuring large steel consumption for the structure and complex joint details.
Flexible Space Partitioning: The main structure is a large steel frame, and the interior can be flexibly divided into office areas, production areas and warehousing areas with light steel keels, brick walls and other materials according to process requirements.
Diversified Roof Systems: In addition to steel sheets, large daylighting belts, ventilation skylights and smoke exhaust skylights are usually installed to improve natural daylighting and ventilation.
Scenario 3: Bulk Commodity and Cold Chain Specialized Warehousing
Typical Building Types: Low-temperature Cold Storage, Flat Grain Silos
Structural Characteristics:
Fully Enclosed Thermal Insulation System: Polyurethane/rock wool sandwich panels are used for walls and roofs to form a continuous thermal insulation shell without thermal bridges. Anti-frost heave ventilation or heating layers shall be set on the ground of cold storage.
Temperature Difference Stress Structure: The temperature difference between the inside and outside of the warehouse is extremely large. The structural design shall fully consider temperature stress and set reasonable temperature expansion joints to prevent structural members from deformation or cracking due to thermal expansion and contraction.
Moisture-proof and Vapor Barrier Layer: A continuous and complete vapor barrier layer must be installed on the inner side of the enclosure structure to prevent water vapor from penetrating into the thermal insulation layer and causing icing and insulation failure.
Scenario 4: Special Industries and Commercial Facilities
Typical Building Types: Automobile 4S Stores, Indoor Sports Venues
Structural Characteristics:
Emphasis on Architectural Expressiveness: Special-shaped steel structures such as curved steel beams and curved space grids, as well as glass curtain walls are often adopted to make the building open, transparent and fashionable.
Composite Functional Space: The main structure is a long-span exhibition hall, and a two-story steel structure office mezzanine or maintenance workshop often needs to be embedded inside.
High-standard Indoor Environment: High requirements for natural daylighting, ventilation and indoor visual experience, with large-area skylights usually designed on the roof.
Scenario 5: Agricultural and Temporary Emergency Facilities
Typical Building Types: Large Agricultural Machinery Depots, Emergency Materials Reserves Warehouses
Structural Characteristics:
Priority to Economy and Practicability: Standardized light steel portal frames are mostly adopted with a span of 12 to 18 meters, featuring simple structure, low steel consumption and low cost.
Excellent Natural Ventilation: To discharge exhaust gas and moisture from agricultural machinery, two rows of openable ventilation shutters are usually installed on the side walls, or ridge ventilators are set up.
Rapid Construction and Demountability: Emergency warehouses often adopt fully prefabricated structures with bolted connections, which can be constructed, disassembled, transferred and reused quickly.

Scenario 6: Energy, Environmental Protection and Renewable Resource Treatment Centers
Typical Building Types: New Energy Component Warehousing Centers, Renewable Resource Recycling and Processing Workshops
Structural Characteristics:
Super Long-span and Ultra-high Space: To store ultra-long components such as wind turbine blades, long-span structures such as space trusses and beam string structures are commonly used, with a span of more than 40 meters and a clear height of over 15 meters.
Super Load-bearing Design: Lifting points are preset on the roof, and the ground is a reinforced concrete floor with a thickness of ≥30cm to bear heavy equipment (such as balers, dismantling machines) and dense stacking.
Heavy Anti-corrosion and Strong Ventilation: For corrosive environments, steel members are coated with heavy anti-corrosion coatings or made of weathering steel. Large-area forced ventilation shutters and dust removal system interfaces are set on the walls.
Conclusion
Steel structure warehouses are by no means uniform. Their strength lies in the ability to accurately meet various complex needs from storage, production to processing through professional structural design and detailed treatment according to different application scenarios. Selecting the appropriate structural form and design partner is the key to the success of the project and the realization of long-term efficient and safe operation.
